At the beginning of December, Tomé, the Brazilian crane and heavy load transport company, acquired the three hundredth LTM 1500-8.1 in the Liebherr plant in Ehingen. This crane model was introduced at Bauma 1998 for the first time. In 2008, two hundred deliveries of this model was celebrated. Two years later, this outstanding success has now been surpassed by the delivery of three hundred LTM 1500-8.1 models. This makes the Liebherr 500-ton machine the world's most successful telescopic crane of its class.
Key factors to the success of the LTM 1500-8.1 are its high load capacity, as well as its extraordinary mobility on the road and on site. With an axle load of 12 t and overall weight of 96 t, it travels up to 80 km/h on the road with all supports and a 4-piece 50 m long telescopic boom. The crane operator can select the 50 m or the 84 m long telescopic boom. Crane operators appreciate the ease of operation and the quick and easy assembly procedures, for instance when they need to mount counterweights, the superlift or the lattice jib.
Tomé employs roughly 4,000 employees and operates in the engineering sector, from technical planning to construction (Tomé Engenharia) as well as in crane and heavy load transport sector (Tomé Equipamentos e Transportes). This sector employs around 1,500 employees and has roughly 200 mobile and crawler cranes and 700 transport units in operation. Liebherr received the first order from Tomé on 24th December 2009: orders were placed for mobile and crawler cranes worth more than 40 million euros. This included three LR 1600/2-W crawler cranes, a LR 1750, two LTM 11200-9.1 and the LTM 1500-8.1 which has now been delivered.
